Lossless challenges the representational nature of photography by re-ordering the digital photograph, using Processing and a custom QuickSort algorithm. The majority of photographs are now stored as pixels, where each pixel is a representation of specific values of color, brightness, saturation, etc.
Our works are re-ordered and removed from their previous context while still being an accurate representation of every single pixel in the original image. This process allows the image to function as a unique object and set of information rather than an object devoid of its own context.
In this process, the image now functions conceptually as a collection of visualized data rather than a mechanical/digital reproduction of reality. The action of re-organizing the photograph makes tangible the traditionally transparent functioning of the medium.
You may submit an image for sorting to the following email address:

When submitting an image, you agree that the image may be used for exhibition or sale.

Our dream is to transform an old Parisian dance hall, just minutes from Place de Clichy, into a venue for the documentary image (photography, video and film).
A place to present, compare and examine the many possible ways of addressing reality.
A place to question the issues involved in documentary creation; issues that span aesthetics and politics.
A place to debate the conditions in which documentary images are produced, published and seen.
A place to think about what a “document” really is: part investigation, part experience, part recording and part creation.
A place to explore new visual forms that can convey reality in all its complexity.”

Pied La Biche / Sans titre (Work in Progress) from Dédale Paris on Vimeo.
Refait from Pied La Biche on Vimeo.
“Refait” is a remake of the football WorldCup match between France and Germany (Seville, Spain, 1982). Shot by Pied La Biche in Villeurbanne (France), every aspect of the fifteen last minutes of the match was carefully reconstructed : players, positions, gestures, intensity, drama etc. It consists in shifting the traditional game area into the urban environment. Each sequence takes place in one or several locations and then the city temporarily becomes the lab for unsual experiments.
The soundtrack is made up of the original commentaries mixed with interviews of the audience recorded during the shooting.
